What a Windy Day!!

Thanks to all those who were able to help out this morning and afternoon--Dan, Lee, Corey, James, Tyler, Bryce, Charles, and Chris. We truly appreciate it, especially with the cold wind blowing through!!! With everyone's help (and the telescopic handler), they were able to get the office and master bedroom walls in place (some walls being 13' tall, with others 23' tall), as well as the garage walls.

Jacob and Josh join Grandpa for a ride in the telescopic handler!!!

This is looking at the side of the house from the east. The really tall wall is the office wall, which is next to the laundry room/mudroom, and then the garage.

This the back wall of the office, with the great room in the middle
(no wall there yet), and then the master bedroom wall on the far side.

This is Jacob's favourite--the wall with the Tyvek on it is his room!!! This is from the front of the house, and Jacob room is actually in a dormer. The garage walls are to the left.

The house still stands

Much to our relief, when we went out to the lot today, all the walls were still standing. We had a pretty good windstorm through the area on Tuesday evening--it swept our patio table off the deck out back here in the city, and the wind always seems to be a little stronger out at the acreage.
The electrician was finally able to make it today, so we should be able to get Fortis to hook-up power pretty soon. We will also be arranging to have ATCO Gas come in shortly to trench in a gas line.
We have started to get a few rough quotes for kitchen cabinets. Some places won't start doing any design work until the drywall is in place, and then they are saying it will be about 4-6 months past that before we get the cabinets installed. That is a lot longer than originally thought, as a few had said they could start designing as soon as the kitchen was framed and appliances picked out. I am in the process of picking of appliances--I've picked the ones I like--but just have to find a place to buy them and find them for a good price!!!!
We are still in the process of finding a contractor to do the heating/furnance. We decided not to go with geothermal, as the second estimate also came in higher than we were originally told. We are still looking at putting in in-floor heating in the basement, and in the tiled areas upstairs (bathrooms, front foyer).
It looks like we will have a good crew this Saturday to help out. Thanks to Chris Sakamoto for asking some of his buddies. There is always room for more though!!! We are still planning on renting a telescopic handler to lift the big walls into place, as well as place a few large beams to support the roof. If time permits, we may also start to put trusses on the garage.

No more ladders!!

The flooring is complete on the second storey, and the stairs up to the second storey were put in yesterday. Dad L built the bottom couple, put in the landing, and then Mom L and myself built the rest. We'll have to see how they hold up!!! We are supposed to have some pretty nice weather this week, so hopefully all the snow will be gone. It has been a little bit slippery up on the floor surfaces, but it has finally all melted.
